WESTBOROUGH, MA — Following the closure of another national gym chain location over the summer, a Planet Fitness will soon open in Westborough, according to the company.
The new gym will open at the Westmeadow Plaza, 166 Milk St., in November. The gym is already selling memberships, with monthly plans starting at $10.
The Westborough Crunch Fitness gym closed abruptly in mid-June — although local gyms like the Westboro Tennis & Swim Club stepped in to offer former members discounts.
The Westborough Planet Fitness will be part of a small expansion for the New Hampshire-based chain in the region, whose locations are typically owned by franchisees. A second Planet Fitness opened in Worcester earlier this year at Lincoln Plaza. Counting the new Westborough location, there are now eight Planet Fitness gyms between Framingham, West Boylston, Worcester and Milford.
“We are also happy to continually expand our footprint in Worcester County; Westborough will bring our franchise group to seven locations in the county and 58 locations overall in New England. In addition to our new clubs, we have reinvested in our existing clubs: Shrewsbury was remodeled, the Stafford Street location in Worcester has been expanded, and a renovation of Leominster is underway now,” franchise owner Brian Kablik said in a news release.
The new 21,500 square-foot Westborough location will be open daily from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m., except Fridays when the gym closes at 9 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays when hours run 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
