Both elementary schools in the Mercer County School District are slated to get upgrades. The New Boston project is the bigger of the two. It will include demolishing the third story and adding a new wing. Unit 404 Superintendent Scott Petrie details the improvements coming to the New Boston building.
The upgrade will also include a new library.
Apollo Elementary in Aledo will be getting a new cafeteria and commons area and some new classrooms.
Petrie tells WRMJ the district hopes to have the projects out for bids this winter with construction starting for both in the spring of 2023. A tentative timeline has the Apollo project finished at the beginning of the 2024-25 school year and the New Boston project finished at the beginning of the 2025-26 school year.
