A July photo of Faith Christian Academy’s gym floor was nothing more than a storage spot for all kinds of material to repair the first floor.
Here’s that same floor pictured this week. A company out of Dallas has put down the new gym floor, allowing the Saints to begin preparation for their athletic campaign.
It looks like Faith Christian Academy will be having a 2022-2023 athletic season after all.
On Tuesday, it was a cement floor. On Thursday, it was all but ready for those first serves across the volleyball net.
The city’s little private school, located at 3519 Burke Rd., still trying to recover from a massive water leak earlier this year, continues to put its first floor back together again.
No challenge was bigger than repairing the gym floor. For all of June and July, it was a central location for new sheet rock and the storing of lights and who knows what else.
But courtesy of a company out of Dallas, not only has it been repaired, it looks grander than the old floor. The company, called Vector Concepts, which specializes in all kinds of flooring, including gym floors, began installing the new floor on Tuesday.
The floor consists of two thin foam-like layers. The bottom layer, colored a light green, is followed by a middle layer of purple. Then the top layer is the actual court that looks like wood but it’s just a real-looking replica.
Best of all with the new floor, it looks like there will be no concern if any kind of liquid gets on top of the court since it’s not genuine wood.
First things first. Out of an aerosol can came some sort of adhesive that was sprayed onto the cement floor. The lanes to the basketball court, colored red, got sprayed with the adhesive first. Then came the rest of the floor. On Thursday, a black out-of-bounds area was laid down and then trimmed.
By the end of the day Thursday, all the lines for volleyball and basketball had been put in place. A Vector Concepts employee said a mid-court logo was planned.
Seeing the new gym floor down has to be a great relief to school official and coach Phillip De La Rosa. He kept September’s varsity volleyball tournament to the bare minimum number of teams just in case the floor wouldn’t be ready in time.
The school is a member of TCAL, the Texas Christian Athletic League and De La Rosa can now relax and begin seriously planning for that eight-team varsity tournament that he has planned as well as a junior varsity and junior high tournament.
