Trainer Matt Kido shared his insights on a client’s weight loss journey.
In a new video on the Gokuflex channel, personal trainer Matt Kido shares the story of a client, Brett, who he helped transform his body in the course of a three-month program.
Brent used to weigh nearly 300 pounds and was extremely depressed. He then lost 100 pounds in the course of a year and a half, but described himself as “skinny fat” and still struggled with body confidence. When he started training with Matt, he set himself the goal of dropping down to 170 pounds as well as getting lean and building muscle.
The first thing that Matt did was give Brent a detailed nutrition breakdown with specific macro splits that changed on a weekly basis to reflect his progress. “I do not believe in meal plans, the reason is they’re not sustainable,” he says. “You’re not going to eat the same thing every single day for the rest of your life. All of my clients are given macros and then they use whatever foods they prefer and that is available to them.”
In terms of physical activity, he started Brent off with one or two low-impact cardio sessions a week on top of his resistance training. A month in, he was doing HIIT workouts as well as his regular workouts, which had gone up to four times a week.
After 12 weeks, Brent surpassed his original goal, weighing in at 167 pounds, with visible results in his physique, most noticeably with his newly defined abs.
“Consistency is key,” says Matt. “If you’re not consistent, you will not make gains, so stay consistent, work hard, progress is all that matters.”
